Good day all,

I had been wanting to do Cuban sandwiches for quite some time and finally got to it this past weekend. Perfect for the weekly family get together.

In a nutshell, a Cuban sandwich is like a panini sandwich consisting of ham, Cuban lechon asado (roasted pork), cheese, mustard, and slices of pickles in a sandwich/hoagie roll.

I wanted to use ham ham as opposed to deli ham so I made a trip to Albertsons and stumbled upon all time favorite ham, Kruse. They usually bring them in for the holidays only but they had two which where deeply discounted. SCORE!! .99lb

Processed the ham and vacuum packed since it's say too much ham

Got the working on the making the lechon asado (the Cuban pork roast) which is to be marinated with garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, pepper, bay leaves, sour orange juice (I squeezed regular oranges and lemons to acheive sourness)

Let it sit in the marinade. Smelled absolutely amazing.

Rainly Sunday afternoon and I fired up my new PBC. My friend love my v1 PBC so much he kept it and told me to get me a new one. I did and they now come porcelain enameled like the Webers. :thumb:

Hung the butt

A little hung over from Sat night so nothing to do but cure it.:becky: Made some micheladas. Really refreshing and here are the ingredients if you're interesed. 1/4 to 1/3 cup of clamato, top the rest with beer, dash of tabasco or hot sauce on hand, dash of Worcestershire, squirt of lemon. Salt the rim if you want.

About two hours in I had a 1lb to 1 1/2 pork butt left so I cubed them bitesize for snacking. It takes about 45 to 1hr and they're delicious.

This one turned out way better than I expected it to be. Absolutely delicious.

Thanks for looking!!

Great looking sandwich! Will have to try one soon.

I have an annual burger cook off that we do with family coming up and I was thinking about a Cuban burger. This gave me some great ideas. Looks awesome, well done!

Nice job. A great looking sandwich. The bread looks perfect. The right bread is very important to a good Cuban sandwich.

Wow, looks great Sako... I love me a good sandwich. Never had a Cubano though. Easier to find a Torta here than a Cubano.

Thanks!!

Bread def either makes it or breaks it. This was spot on.

Thanks Terry! Honestly it's the same deal out here with the exception of a nice Cuban bakery that serves up a nice Cuban sandwich. That's why I decided to do my own and honestly the movie Chef gave me the final push. lol

Get me a Kleenex. That looks so good it brought a tear to my eye. Dang. What temp do you cook the butt to slice it so nice. :thumb::thumb::thumb:

I just made some cubans last week with some leftover pork chops substituting for the pork roast. Yours look fan-farkin'-tastic! Making me want them again this week!

Dang it ssv! You're making me hungry. lol
Everything looks fantastic!! Would love to have a sip of that red beer right now too. Great post!!

That was funny and thank you Sir! I pulled it at about 170*. Up until 180* is good for slicing.
