No, but they typically have them within a few hours' drive of wherever you might be.

How far out does WSOP pay? Do they pay a new entry fee at each level? I know our local casino has poker contests and the winner gets a paid trip to the next level. (would this be a WSOP competition?)

Your local casino is likely hosting WSOP circuit events if the winner gets a trip to another contest. But in a Circuit event (official WSOP) the winners also take home money, not just a seat at the WSOP Main event. Or the caisno is just holding a private tournament with the winner getting trip to the WSOP Main event (which is typical too). During the actual WSOP event in Vegas, I believe they pay the top 10% of the field, which is normal for most cash paying poker events (WSOP or non WSOP).

I don't think you can make a true apples to apples comparison because there are several ways to get into the WSOP between various qualifiers and or just paying the entry fee.

It would be nice if something like Sam's did not require you to pay for each round as you progress, but then again its nice to have a big event and a big sponsor, and you'll likely have won at least $250 during the first round to pay the entry fee for the 2nd round.

Not to stir up the pot again but if the objective is to pay down so the money winners in the local have money to pay the entry fee+ to the regional then they really shouldn't let teams compete in multiple local events or teams that have already qualified for the regional should be ineligible for prize money.

If I am not mistaken, this was the first year they let teams compete in multiple events in the first round, no?

I was also showing that this is not a perfect apples to apples comparision to the WSOP structure, that's all. They could probably change up the structure a bit, but given what else we have for a big national tournament, its not an awful structure either with a nice large payout at the end.

For us in our area (NYC Metro area), the Regional Finals are 7+ hrs away in VA, that is more of an obstacle than the additional $250 entry fee (if we were to make it that far).

I've won money in Sam's and the WSOP. Won more (and spent more) on BBQ.

There are actually about 60 WSOP "bracelet" events, not just the main event you see on ESPN. The main event has a 10k entry fee per player, and the others start at $1000 and go up as high as $25k.

Not all of the WSOP entry fees are paid out in the prize pool, just like all poker tournaments the house takes a cut. The Sam's Club prize pool across all of the contests is actually higher than the entry fees by a substantial margin - Sam's Club and the other sponsors subsidize the prize pool and the cost of running the events. So you really don't want it to be like the WSOP, the payouts would be much lower.

It's not just likely, it's a sure thing. After the first year, they changed the Sam's structure so that if you qualify to move on, you are certain to have won at least enough to cover the entry fee for the next round.

I had to travel to to Medford, NY from RI, then from RI to Virginia, and then RI to Bentonville. Twice. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Any contest in New England we can reach without staying overnight is "local". (Of course I also drove to Las Vegas to compete, so I'm a little crazy. )
