Date and Place are set. This event will be KCBS sanctioned and will be held at the Walker County Fairgrounds in Huntsville, Texas. The event will help fund, and promote, a schoarship program, in Fred Pirckle's name, for students who wish to attend SHSU to pursue a carrer in IT. I will be updating this thread as I get more information, such as prize money, concert added money, etc. Hope to have some of my Brothers show up. Stay tuned!

Due to Sam's venture to the Lone Star State over the last 3 years, I suspect you will have quite a few teams from our beloved State.

I'll be there trying not to finish DAL.

I posted this in the other thread as well

For what it's worth, the following cookoffs are scheduled for the same weekend:
KCBS - Shawnee, OK 371 miles away and will draw most of the OK crowd
IBCA - Ennis, TX 137 miles and just south of Dallas
Wills Point, TX 172 miles and just east of Dallas
Bossier City, LA 191 miles
Corpus Christi, TX 276 miles and will draw from Houston and south
Geronimo, TX 185 miles and will draw from Houston and west

Did not see any Lone Star or Texas Gulf Coast scheduled for that weekend yet.

It's 188 miles for me to Shawnee and 189 miles to Huntsville. Which one I attend will depend on the Reps selected and prize money. Just saying

There's a potential for the Sam's Club events to conflict as well.

Saw the other thread first. We are working on getting this event proclaimed a State Championship. Hope to draw teams from that as well as it being close to Houston.

Thats awesome! Fred was a friend of mine and I still miss seeing him around the comps in the Mid-Atlantic.

Might have to see if I can bum some equipment and get out there for this one.

I wish I could have met him. I cooked for the banquet to raise awareness of the scholarship, in his name, and to let people know about the cook off. The way people talked about him during their speeches seemed like he was one hell of a man.

The organizers will be signing the contract, tomorrow morning, to use the Walker County Fairgrounds for the cook off. It has 92 40' x 40' sites with water and 15 amp power service.

The Shawnee, Oklahoma contest is March 28-29, 2014

I just got an e-mail from KCBS that the sanctioning for the cook off has been officially approved. Also, since it is a first year contest, as long as 15 teams cook all four catagories the event will be a qualifier for the American Royal and the Jack Daniel's, if we can get the state proclomation. Some folks from SHSU are talking about having a CBJ class at Sam this October too. I'll keep posting more info as we go.

The oraganizers told me yesterday that the fliers and applications will be ready to start sending out next week. I will have some more news to report in the next day, or two, about the payout. It's going to be a pretty good "Guaranteed" payout. If you would like to be added to the mailing list you can email me at swampdonkeyzbbq@gmail.com and I will pass it on to the organizers. Thanks Guys!

The organizers of the Shotgun Fred BBQ Showdown called me tonight and said they are going to GUARANTEE a $10,000 payout at the cook off next March. They will have a breakdown of the payout next week. Also, the entry fees will be $300, for your four meats, before January first and $350 after the first. If you haven't already sent me your address or email address you can do so at swampdonkeyzbbq@gmail.com

I have family from the Madisonville area and I havent been to Iola in waaay to many years. This contest may be the right reason to make a trip back to my home state to compete.

I'll be breaking some really cool news about an added prize for the 1st Annual Shotgun Fred BBQ showdown on Lance Moore's West Texas Pitmasters show, on blogtalkradio.com, this Sunday night. Don't miss out!

Here's what the payout looks like for the cook off. If enough teams show up the organizers could bump the payout up.
GC 1000.00 and a BBQ Guru Onyx Oven
RGC 600.00
1st 550
2nd 450
3rd 350
4th 250
5th 125
6- 10th 75 each

Just recieved word today that the Onyx Oven will come ready to roll with a Guru Unit. Also, The BBQ Guru Competition Team has confirmed that they will be competing in the cook off.
