Wanted to go old school for the "spin to win" Throwdown. So I got a chicken and stuffed it with sliced Granny Smith apple and rubbed with Yardbird and injected wih creole butter. Then did my best attempt of tying it up.

Then I had welded a frame using T post I had laying around to hang the chicken from.

Sides was corn on the cob and pork and beans that I added a couple slices of cheese and butter to. Don't knock it till you try it!!!

String cooking is something I was taught by my grandparents, but haven't done in years. The idea is the longer and thinner the string, the more spin you will get. I had about 4 feet of butchers twine I used. Once you have everything tied and ready just give the bird or what ever a spin by hand and when the string gets tight it will stop and spin the way and go back and forth. You have to help it spin every 30 mins or so depending on length and size of string. Now for my crappy video. It's my first video so don't beat me up too hard.

Nice thinking outside the box! Looks like it was a success!

I've been doing some research about string cooking. Just to see what other folks have done. Not a lot of folks are really doing it now, but I think I will be trying a few different cuts besides chicken just to see what happens. Here is a link I thought was interesting and wanted to share. Turns out, string cooking was just another poor mans way of cooking.

I wanted to try this this summer but never got around to it, yours looks perfect, I am definitely trying it this next spring, I like it it is caveman like.

Huh that is just really cool. Never heard of string cooking before, going to try this for sure :thumb:

This would be a cool thing to teach the youth!!!

Definitely! This bunch would eat cereal and hot dogs for every meal if we let them... everything is too hard to prepare or requires too much clean up.

Eat chicken, burn string... time for dessert! :thumb:

As far as the string burning, what I did since I didn't have a spray bottle was pour some water in my hand and just rubbed the string maybe every 20-30 mins to keep it cool.
