I am happy to drive down SundAy morning to chip in for the day. I will go by the RD in Port Hester -- they open at 9 on Sunday. I am happy to buy what ever you ask for--provided it fits in an Audi A5. I will leave at 8:30AM if you need anything email me stackley@optonline.net prior. If I don't hear anything I can hit the road earlier.

I've been a pretty active member of the Brethren for about 6 years and I've never been more proud to be a Brethren than today.
We fed a tremendous amount of people today and almost importantly, gave them confidence that people truly care about them and their well being.
There were stories from our delivery people of folks crying when receiving the food and we saw lots of families with small children. We had the pleasure of feeding a large number of first responders would couldn't have been more gracious, polite and grateful.
I had to take a bit of a circuitous route when I arrived, missing the destination by a few blocks. Just traveling those few short blocks showed us how severely hit this community was. The contents of homes were laid out in front of houses by the street on every block, at every house.
Sandy hit Long Beach like Holmes hit Tex Cobb and they are just starting to get back to a small semblance of normalcy.
I'll be posting some pictures asap.
HUGE 'thank you's to everyone that volunteered today.

Hey folks, the numbers totaled 5,000 on Long Island today with that many or more expected tomorrow. Still would like to have someone run to Brooklyn and bring chicken and charcoal (in two places) back to Phil and the Long Island crew! Great job today folks! This is what it's all about. Phil had some pretty touching words about his feelings and the things he saw and heard today. People who hadn't had a hot meal in a WEEK were crying when they got this food. Good job everyone!

Part of the FIVE HUNDRED CASES of iced tea donated by Clare Rose, who also supported the Battle of the BBQ Brethren.
One of four large charcoal grills pumping out chicken, burgers, dogs and sausage.
Volunteers packing up meals to be delivered to the most devastated sections of town, escorted by the National Guard.

There's really no way to describe how horrible long beach really looks other than totally destroyed. We got there late. After battling traffic and horrible imap directions. We made it. Things were well underway. I don't even want to list everyone I saw in fears of forgetting someone. But we somehow managed to accomplish a restaurant depot run for everyone. I stuffed all this in the back of my wrangler. At least I feel like we did a little something. Hats off to everyone there.

Can someone pass this along to someone who is in long beach today. Make sure that my ez up and table are packed together so I can grab it from someone during the week. Not able to make it there today. I spoke to Phil about it yesterday.

Phil & the rest of my Brethren brothers & sisters, thank you so much for your hard work this weekend in Long Beach. I personally know how hard you all are working to provide a hot meal to those in need. You have and will touch so many lives. Your efforts will be appreciated more than you will ever realize. For every story of hope, gracious thank you's, and and tears of gratitude, there scores more that you will never hear. We are truly a united BBQ family coming together in times of need. On behalf of OBR and myself, thank you so much.

If you have some, sure! Phil said he had some from out in the neighborhoods too. Phil thought it would be more than yesterday and he texted me about 1:30 am to change from 5,000 to 8,000. You guys did fantastic!

Phil's initial number for yesterday was more accurate. Somewhere around 4000.
Total for the two days so far: 10276. Let me know if you'd like a breakdown (how much pork after cooking, how many ribs, how many burgers, etc.). Hoping to get another 1500 - 2000 tomorrow.
I'll work on those photos.

Good Job to the LI crew. You guys cooked up some serious amount of meals. We had put out roughly 8500 for the weekend. I echo Eric's sentiments about how proud we were to have been part of the OBR relief efforts, and the impact we made on the residents, and emergency workers of SI.

We fed another 1800 people today in Long Beach, bringing the total to 12076. I absolutely HAVE to thank Sully (feel better!) his wife and Michelle from NEBS who were unbelievably dedicated. Also needing thanks is Sean from Virginia who stayed the extra day and did an amazing job.
Under the leadership of Santa and Snarky, LI BBQ teams fed (roughly) 12,000 meals last weekend in Babylon.
If we combine those two numbers, BBQ folks fed 24,076 meals to those in need in a week. How cool is that?
